The food order buzzer is a commonly found gadget that is an integral part of our daily life. Can it be designed in a different form?

‘The Foodbuzz’, an application derived out of the pain points from my user research on the topic of local food.

WHAT (The Brief and Topic)

The project brief was to propose and build a mobile application that solves a pain point on the topic of the local Food dining experience.

WHY (The Opportunity)

Hawker foodies currently do not have a way to know when their food is ready, they may have to spend time checking on their orders and wait without information or update. It creates inconvenience, especially dining at the hawker centers is a big part of our lives as reflected by the research process.

HOW (The UX Process)

A design sprint of two weeks and UX processes involving user interviews, research,  affinity mapping, design ideation, wire-framing, paper sketching, Hi-Fi prototyping, design iteration is done.

OUTCOME (Ideation & Solution)

The Foodbuzz mobile application is a proposal to solve a problem statement identified. With this mobile application, it provides timely notification/update of when to collect their food while they hunt around for their table and seat, the application allows the Foodbuzz user to easily place single or multiple orders. They are provided with an option to browse on the aggregated hawker stall database, for the average food preparation timings of stalls or to reference other user’s stall ratings, this is a proposition to aid in their time management and selection process.

This is my effort to contribute to our hawker culture and to make the experience more delightful. Possible iteration may include more social functions or including making online payments with it.

THE EXPERIENCE (Lessons & Takeaways)

The project provided me a lot of discoveries on the UX processes and how to go about interviewing the users. I have further plans to continue building up or to improve on the usability and design concept.
