WHAT (The Co-Founder and UIUX Lead of the business)

I was the co-founder and lead designer for Kampustar, a one-stop mobile management system for day care services and pre-schools (S.A.A.S). Where I was in-charge of all designs covering mobile application UI, user flows, prototyping, WordPress website deployment and designing marketing collaterals.

WHY (The Opportunity)

The opportunity and idea came about from a few unplanned casual long discussions, after our badminton games (Between Kampustar Founder – Lin Yu & me) about how hard it can be to handle childcare especially for parents with multiple kids, and there seems to be no digital platform or solution for this type of services back then.

HOW (The Process)

Wearing many hats and working with the founder who is an IT system developer for a local bank, we started to lay down all the pain points that we as parent faced and begin to sketch and ideate since we are directly the users. We decided to spend the next three months to research and start building a prototype, and to bring about our proof of concept. I will be sketching flow diagrams for user features once we had the user features identified and we gone through daily ‘stand-up’ exchanges often. Lin yu would show me his build status on the various test platforms and we would pen down our tasks and design sprints over the next few months. We went about the same process except for certain days, we would meet business owners to chat and research on their needs and operational details.

The team objective was to kick-off the startup with branding strategies, marketing collaterals, sales kit and a MVP prototype to present the Kampustar SAAS concept for some potential investors and pre-school business owners. We eventually expanded to be a four men team (A business developing manager and a server / database developer joined). Lin yu have since took up chief technology officer / product lead role. While I became the design lead for UXUI of the application.

OUTCOME (Ideation & Solution)

We were able to worked out the overall business concept, operational system at both front and backend plus our sales strategies. We were able to employ a prototyping platform (justinmind) to showcase the functions and features to potential users and business owners. At this point, the project was badly in need of funding and a local attempt to pitch and receive funding support did not pull through, hence it was decided as a strategic move to both cut cost and speed up development by moving the project to Chong Qing, China.
