WHAT (The Brief and Topic)
The project brief was to select and improve the usability of an existing mobile application as a design challenge. Employing UX research and processes to gather data and insights to direct the redesign.
WHY (The Opportunity)
ActiveSg is an application developed as part of Sport Singapore’s Vision 2030 master plan to help and reach out to every Singaporeans to “Live Better Through Sports”. The mobile app is to serve the national movement for sports and for users to get real-time information about sports facilities and fitness programs and to provide booking for both sports facilities and fitness classes on the go. However, we have discovered the gaps and under-performing aspects of it during our design heuristic analysis, UX processes, and user insights and feedback. There is a lot of potentials for the app to have better and greater usability and to even delight the Application’s users.
HOW (The UX Process)
A design sprint of two weeks with UX design processes like on-site user interview/researches, environmental observation, card sorting, SUS test scale, ideation, mid-fi wire-framing, hi-fi prototyping, and usability tests.
OUTCOME (Ideation & Solution)
After the research and UX processes, we uncovered that the application does not warrant a total redesigning, but to improve on the application’s taxonomy and information architecture, common use cases gathered from our interviews and feature flows are redesigned to make it simpler and easier for the users to interact with. With the redesign exercise, be it with new sign-ups or existing users, the users can navigate efficiently. The booking tasks are now simply delightful to manage and to complete.
The outcome is a much cleaner user interface with a high level of user-centricity achieved.
