WHAT (The Client and Product)

The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), previously called UniSim, is one of Singapore’s six national universities, SUSS aims to provide lifelong education that equips learners to serve and contribute to society. The University provides an applied education that targets both fresh school leavers and adult learners, with a focus on the social sciences.

Our Team was tasked (as a student project) to redesign the website for the Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS) and to improve on the information architecture and the overall user experience.

WHY (The Opportunity)

Since their rebranding and restructuring to a social science university, SUSS needs to exude a strong prestigious positioning by presenting clear information of their prestigious courses on their website for both potential and current students, additionally, a user-friendly experience with the website would greatly help the university to attract their target audience and ascertain their regional presence for the global market.

HOW (The UX Process)

A design sprint of two weeks, employing UX processes like user research, card sorting, tree test, SUS scale test, paper sketching, ideation, mid-fi wire-framing, hi-fi prototyping, and usability test with SUS was done.

OUTCOME (Ideation & Solution)

The redesign outcome was a vastly improved website, beginning with clearer architecture contents and cleaner user interface, we user-tested our new SUSS website, and was very well-received based on the user’s feedback. The SUS scale also showed a huge improvement from the score of originally 41.5 to 80 marks (A much better user experience!).

THE EXPERIENCE (Lessons & Takeaways)

We had a lot of fun redesigning the website, where we felt collectively, the design challenge brought us a lot of good learnings, while the UX processes had greatly elevated the level of user-centricity while maintaining the intended branding and marketing elements. We were amazed by how the ‘Card Sorting’ and ‘Tree Test’ processes were key to make site navigation intuitive and any information retrieving easy. The team dynamic was great and everyone took turns wearing different hats. Good teamwork armed with the right processes and tools would deliver a positive outcome.
